Saturday, March 19, 2022 Hollywood BPW celebrated our 101st anniversary and presented our 38th annual Susan B. Anthony Award via Zoom. This year’s Susan B. Anthony honoree was the immediate Past President of CFBPW and current President of the California BPW Education Fund Rosemary Enzer.

Saturday, February 26, 2022 Hollywood BPW recognized Phyllis E. Currie with it Leadership Award for Black History Month. Phyllis E. Currie, former chair of the MISO board of directors, has served as a member of the board since 2016. Previously, Ms. Currie served as general manager of Pasadena Water and Power from 2001 to 2015. During her 30-year career with the city of Los Angeles, Currie held the positions of chief financial officer for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power; assistant city administrative officer overseeing the development of the city’s annual operating and capital budgets and director of the Los Angeles rent control program. She served on the Electricity Advisory Committee of the Department of Energy from 2015 to 2017. She is currently an executive consultant for Hometown Connections doing strategic planning for electric and water utilities in California. Additionally, Currie is on the national board of GRID Alternatives, the board of directors of the Association of Women in Water, Energy and the Environment and active in the Rotary Club in Pasadena.

Saturday, October 16, 2021 Hollywood BPW  recognized Elizabeth “Liz” Benham as our Global Business Woman 2021. Liz is Past President of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. and a Past President of BPW International. She is an inventor and entrepreneur. She is originally from South Africa, but a long-time citizen of the USA. She also has a dual Canadian citizenship and is moving from Florida to Canada.

MacGregor is the co-founder of the National Women’s History Alliance. She and her alliance successfully lobbied Congress in 1980 to designate March as Women’s History Month. Hollywood BPW established the annual Susan B. Anthony award to honor women who have made a contribution to extending women’s rights and contributions.

Gathers joined this august group of Men of Hollywood. Gathers is a leader in the Hollywood community, having most recently served as Board Chair of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce,   President of the Board of Trustees of Hollywood Methodist Church, on the board of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, the Broad Stage at Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center and chaired the Board of the International Visitors’ Council of Los Angeles. He currently chairs the Board of the Hollywood Chamber of Community Foundation. He has a bi-weekly podcast called “CivitasLA.”

March 3, 2021 Hooray for Hollywood! Hollywood BPW has been helping women with personal and professional development. Wednesday, March 3rd Hollywood BPW celebrated its 100th anniversary via Zoom during Women’s History Month. The program included recognition of previous winners of the Susan B. Anthony Award, Man of Hollywood and Women of Achievement. Many of these winners from previous years were in attendance to tell about when they received this recognition. The President of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s, Club, the President of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women and the President of the Valley Sunset District of Business Clubs were all in attendance to recognize Hollywood BPW’s anniversary. December 2, 2020 was a celebration of Nan Johnson, Hollywood BPW’s Susan B. Anthony’s honoree for 2020. Nan Johnson is a college professor, New York legislator and co-founder of the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies at the University of Rochester (NY). Also, she was the founder of the Committee, which designed, funded and built the float in the 2020 Rose Parade commemorating the passage of the 19th Amendment. The float won the parade’s theme prize.

Speaker Kathleen Ronald was honored with the “Spectacular Business Woman Award” from Hollywood BPW. She also spoke on decluttering our homes and lives. Kathleen Ronald is the founder of “Speaktacular.” She is an internationally renowned speaker and trainer having appeared on “The Doctors” and “The Doctor Phil Show.” Also, she is a recipient of the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for volunteer service. This program was in celebration of National Women’s Business Week, which started in 1938.

Hollywood BPW honoted Jeff Zarrinnam, President and CEO of Hollywood based Zarco Hotels, as its “Man of the Year” for 2019. He works tirelessly to improve Hollywood. He is active in the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, serves on the tourism improvement district steering committee for the L A Tourism and Convention Bureau, is on the Hollywood Chamber’s Walk of Fame, is Treasurer of the East Hollywood Homeless Coalition and does many other activities to better the community.

Black History Month Program honored Patricia Jackson-Kelley, Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Army (Ret.) Jackson-Kelley is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Navy Reserves. She served 26 years of combined active duty and reserve service. She is a member of the Board of the Foundation of Women Warriors, a County Commissioner of Veteran Affairs and active in service at Veterans’ Hospitals. She is the recipient of many awards and instrumental in implementing programs to empower women veterans.
